A different kind of
place to rest your head.

Point Detour Campground sits on a quiet bend of the St. Croix River, just outside the small town of Russell in north-central Wisconsin. This isn't a crowded park with shared walls and late-night noise — it's a collection of thoughtfully placed campsites and rustic lodging options, each with its own patch of trees and a view that doesn't need a filter.

Whether you're passing through on a road trip, returning for a weekend of fishing, or simply need a place where the Wi-Fi is weak and the silence is strong, Point Detour feels like a secret the river keeps to itself.

The St. Croix
River Country

Russell sits along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway — one of the most protected waterways in the Upper Midwest. The river carves through sandstone bluffs and old-growth forest, offering paddling trails, hiking paths, and quiet coves that feel centuries away from the nearest road.

In summer, the water is warm enough for swimming. In fall, the hills ignite with color. Winter brings snowshoe trails and ice fishing. Spring is when the warblers return and the river swells with meltwater.

03

Rustic Cabin

A step above a tent, a world away from a motel. A bed, a table, a window — and the river just beyond the trees.

Inquire About Availability

We've been coming to Point Detour for years. There's something about sitting on the river at dawn — coffee in hand, no one around, just the water and the birds — that makes everything else feel manageable.
